Through our preferred partner the CU Book Store offers hardware diagnostics and repair services for out-of-warranty Apple and PC computers, as well as various services for Apple iOS and other devices. Our maintenance and repair services are available to students, staff, and faculty of the University, as well as to the general public. Please feel free to bring your computer in any time during CU Book Store hours. You may also contact us with any questions at (303) 492-8001(303) 492-8001. If we are unable to take your call, please leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible.
At this time the CU Book Store is not able to offer warranty repair services. For support options on computers and devices under warranty, please visit the support site of your hardware’s vendor. We are working on providing Apple Warranty repairs in the future, but will most likely not be able to provide support for PC systems under warranty
In most cases diagnostics are free and you will receive a quote within 2 business days. Complex diagnostics (such as those for motherboard work, screen replacements, etc.) incur a fee, however that fee is waived if you continue with the repair, as it is included in the price you will be quoted. Complex diagnostics usually are complete within the same 2 business day time frame, but sometimes will take longer to perform.
Our preferred partner offers a wide variety of services at very reasonable rates. We do not list the rates online as they are subject to change, however we offer a basic Menu of Services in the Book Store’s Technology Department that includes current pricing for the most frequently requested services. Service offerings include, but are not limited to:
- DC Jack Repair
- Mac Screen Replacement

- Spill Cleanup
- Motherboard Repair
- LCD Replacement / Repair
- Keyboard / Touchpad Replacement
- Hard Drive replacement
- Data recovery

Please stop by or call our Technology / Repairs Department at (303) 492-8001(303) 492-8001 if you have questions on the availability of additional services.
Q: Do you offer software support services, such as virus and malware removal?
A: Yes, our preferred partner offers these services. Please note, however, that if you are associated with the University of Colorado our OIT department offers most software services for free through their Bug Busters group. You can call them at (303) 735-4357(303) 735-4357 (5-HELP on campus).
Q: I’ve spilled (insert liquid here) on my laptop, what should I do?
A: Unplug the laptop, remove the battery, and bring it in ASAP. If you attempt to dry it and turn it back on, you may cause irreparable damage.
Q: Will you backup my data before performing a repair?
A: Depending on the type of repair, our preferred partner may offer this service. However, we always recommend that you perform data backups yourself, before you bring the computer in. Our Technology Department sells a wide variety of devices that will help you with backing up your data – from external hard drives to USB ‘thumb drives’ of varying sizes.
Q: What all should I bring with me to get my system diagnosed / repaired?
A: Please bring only the computer itself. If the system has an external power supply (most laptops, some smaller form-factor systems, etc.), please bring that too. You do not need to bring in any cases or peripheral cables.
Q: How do you protect my system once I hand it over to you?
A: All systems and devices are stored in their own protected bin, and that bin is kept in locked rooms and facilities. All information associated with your system is kept with the system at all times.
