User Information
Like many websites, the CU Book Store gathers information about how visitors use our website. In general, you can visit many of our web pages without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information about yourself. We may track your browser and system information using Google Analytics for trends and statistics and to ensure our site is meeting your technical needs, but you will remain anonymous unless you tell us who you are. You can opt out of Google Analytics here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
The information you provide to us for ordering purposes will never be used for any other reason. We do not sell or rent your information to any outside parties.
On rare occasions, we may disclose specific information upon governmental request, in response to a court order, when required by law, to enforce our website policies, or to protect our or others' rights, property, or safety. We may also share information with companies assisting in fraud protection or investigation. We do not provide information to these agencies or companies for marketing or commercial purposes.
The Book Store uses personal information provided by you so that we can service your order. We use email, text, and phone call to communicate with our customers. Also note that we may need to transfer order information to third-party service providers. For example, we may need to provide your address to a wholesaler or shipping company that will ship a product directly to you. We will only transfer the information to the extent necessary to provide the requested information, service, or product to you. We will not sell or trade your personal information to unrelated third parties. When you submit an order, you will receive an emailed confirmation from our system. As your order status changes, you may also receive notifications. These notifications are considered part of our service and may not be disabled.
Please contact us for more information (see below for how to contact us).
Protecting User Information
We use a variety of security measures, including sophisticated encryption and authentication tools to maintain the safety of your personal information. Your personal information is contained behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems, have been trained in data security policies, including FERPA, and are required to keep the information confidential. When you place orders or access your personal information, we offer the use of a secure server. All credit card information you supply is protected by an SSL certificate using the latest encryption technology. Regardless of these efforts, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.
Cookies and Sessions
A cookie is a small removable data file that is stored by your web browser on your computer. Cookies allow you to place an order on our website and allow us to enhance and personalize your online surfing and shopping experience.
To give all users better control over what data is shared, we recently added a cookie consent option that allows you to allow all cookies, reject all cookies, or customize your choices
The cookie consent pop-up is an additional level of control to what you choose on your browser settings. You can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent or you can choose to turn off all cookies. You do this through your browser (like Google Chrome or Apple Safari) settings. Each browser is a little different, so look at your browser Help menu to learn the correct way to modify your cookie settings. If you turn cookies off, you won't have access to many features that make your site experience more efficient and some of our services will not function properly.
